My client, an established legal firm in Central London, is looking for an experienced Practice Manager to assume responsibility for the smooth running of the practice, including management of the admin team consisting of 8 employees. You must have experience as a Practice Manager within a Legal environment. 


Financial Management

  • Manage the accounting function, invoicing, credit control etc.
  • Oversee and authorise all payments from the firm’s client account in strict accordance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules.
  • Prepare monthly management briefings for the partners, to include budget analysis and cashflow forecasts.
  • Prepare annual and quarterly budgets.
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators and financial trends and report to the Partners.
  • Ensure that there are appropriate internal financial controls operating within the practice.
  • Ensure that the firm complies with the current Money Laundering legislation and regulations.

Human Resource Management

  • Manage all personnel files to include inductions, contracts, grievances, disciplinary and absences (either ill health or holidays) whilst ensuring appropriate cover at all times.
  • Manage recruitment including identification of role vacancies, preparation of job descriptions, advertising and interviewing candidates.
  • Appraisals.
  • Ensuring compliance with Employment Law and Health & Safety Legislation.
  • Ensuring up to date records are kept of the firm's staff databases.

IT, Office Administration & Premises Management

  • Maintain appropriate insurance policies.
  • Monitor all property, expenses and utilities including rates, light, heat and telephone.
  • Ensure practice compliance with the Data Protection Act.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to ensure that the practice obtains good value for the services it receives.
  • Ensure telephones, printers, computers, faxes, copiers and other office machinery are all well maintained and appropriate for the needs of the practice.
  • Ensure appropriate virus protection, back-up and disaster recovery procedures are in place and operational.
  • Ensure all software licences are up to date.

Marketing, Client Care and Practice Development

  • Assist with training, systems and procedures to ensure the firm delivers excellent client care.
  • Monitor networking and referral activities of Partners and fee earners.
  • Administer marketing campaigns and events.
  • Administer advertising campaigns.

Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience as practice manager or equivalent role within a legal environment;
  • Willing and able to work as part of a team whilst accepting individual responsibility and ownership of tasks;
  • Confident and enthusiastic – prepared to put forward ideas and give constructive advice;
  • High achiever capable of delivering the firm's ambitious targets;
  • Demonstrates high attention to detail;
  • Able to generate and implement key performance indicators and ideas;
  • Able to drive change and to lead others;
  • Experience in complying with Solicitors Accounts Rules.
