Why Work in London?

London is one of the great cities of the world. It is a city of culture, a city with a deep history and an important hub for global finance and trade. There are many reasons to live and work in London here are just a few.

Job Opportunities
London offers a vast array of job opportunities across many different industries. From finance and government to fashion and media. There’s something here for everyone. In fact, London has 10 times the amount of vacancies that other UK cities have. Many of the world’s biggest companies also have offices here. So, there's more opportunity to brush shoulders with the best talent and progress your career.

Start-ups
London is not only the place to go if you’re looking to get into the banking industry. There are now numerous opportunities at small start-up businesses in the media and tech industries. With many business incubators in the city, plus a host of co-working spaces available now is a great time to find an exciting role in the start-up world.

Talent and Diversity
Due to the nature of the jobs market in the city and the fact that London is easily accessible by the rest of the world (with five major airports and Eurostar running from here), London attracts the best talent from UK and globally. Working in London will undoubtedly allow you to work in diverse teams with different skill sets and various different cultures.

Culture
London is a global city with a large variety of people from all cultures. There are around 3 million foreign workers in the capital attracted not only by the higher salaries, healthcare and other benefits but also the cultural harmonisation offered by the capital. A recent study by Totaljobs.com and The Boston Consulting Group surveyed 200,000 people from 188 countries and London came out on top of places people wanted to work.

Top Attractions
The job opportunities available in the city are certainly a draw but what’s available when you’re not working is almost as important. London has this area covered too with some top attractions such as the London Eye, the Tower of London, and Big Ben. Plus, a host of art galleries and museums such as the Tate Modern, the Natural History Museum, and the Science Museum.

Food and Drink
Along with London’s top attractions food and drink is another big draw for the capital with almost every countries’ cuisine accounted for and with 64 Michelin starred restaurants in the city, there’s plenty of choice for those business lunches or dining out in the evening with friends.

Transport
There’s no doubt that the tube can be hell during peak periods. The stuffy carriages all crammed with people rushing to and from work is never a pleasant experience. Having said that though, there’s a lot to be said for London’s transport system. Pretty much anywhere in the city is easily accessible any time of the day. The tube, buses, and over-ground trains all run a fast efficient service and with Zipcar and Uber now operating in London it’s even easier to get where you want, when you want.

London is a diverse city with many jobs available in many different sectors. Cost of living is certainly higher here than anywhere else in the country but this can be offset by the higher wages and added benefits. If you’re thinking of working in London, it may be worth trying it out with an internship at one of the major firms. Once you’ve worked in the city for a while, you won’t regret making the decision.
