The Role As the Infrastructure / DevOps Engineer, you’ll be central to ensuring the stability, security and performance of the organisation’s AWS environment. Working closely with developers and digital colleagues, you’ll help maintain existing systems, support new application development and contribute to ongoing digital transformation.
Your work will directly support the organisation’s mission to promote high standards and protect animal welfare across the UK.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, patch and monitor AWS Linux servers to ensure availability and stability.
  • Track all servers and services, including usage and cost optimisation.
  • Create, configure and retire servers and infrastructure as required.
  • Install and configure software packages (Apache, Nginx, PHP, Python, PostgreSQL, MySQL etc.).
  • Back up, restore and migrate databases and file stores.
  • Manage and monitor AWS backup plans and remove redundant data.
  • Configure Cloudflare firewalls and DNS, including domain lifecycles.
  • Install, configure and renew SSL certificates.
  • Support the implementation of CI/CD pipelines for AWS deployments.
  • Provide technical support for legacy websites and applications and assist in securing and modernising environments.
  • Maintain clear documentation and records for all server and configuration changes.
  • Support colleagues with configuration, best practice and system maintenance.

Skills & Experience Required
  • Strong, hands‑on experience with AWS servers, services and infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and blue‑green deployments.
  • Experience with database installation, configuration, backup and restoration.
  • Extensive Git/GitHub experience.
  • Strong shell scripting skills (bash, .sh, .yml etc.).
  • Familiarity with common configuration formats (YAML, TOML, JSON).
  • Confident using command‑line interfaces.
  • Experience with DNS setup, SSL certificates and Cloudflare configuration.
Desirable
  • Experience configuring and maintaining Moodle.
  • Knowledge of AWS CDK/CloudFormation.
  • Exposure to Azure environments.
  • Understanding of Docker/Kubernetes.
  • Experience with SendGrid or Azure Graph API.
  • Knowledge of PHP or Python for deployment support and debugging.
  • SQL querying skills.
  • Exposure to TypeScript, Next.js, Expo or React Native.
  • Experience with infrastructure‑as‑code tooling.
