How to get your workforce moving post-holiday season

The holiday season is an enjoyable time for many, however returning to work can often cause a lot of stress. Employees may feel as though they are behind, with a huge number of emails in their inbox to sort through. However, there are some ways in which you can encourage your team to get straight back into it after the holidays, and we have put together some great tips to help with this.


Flawless communication


When employees return, you should make sure that they know exactly what needs to be done, and what should be made a priority. Try not to overdo it with emails during the downtime, as this means that they have more to catch up with when they get back. If you can, give one single update about everything that has happened, and the plans for the imminent future. This gives them a good chance of getting back into things without too much stress.


Set brand new goals


Many people like to see the new year as a new start, and this is in the workplace as much as anywhere else. Fresh goals can be a good thing to start with in the new year, as it gives employees something to work towards, therefore giving them the motivation needed to take the first few steps. Setting small goals at the start of a new year is good, as achieving a goal can also increase future motivation.


Encourage teamwork


Working together can help your team to get up to date with everything, and working with another person can help them to share or even eliminate any stress that they may have felt. With this in mind, wherever possible, you should allocate tasks to groups, as this makes everyone feel as though they have support.


Discourage procrastination


There is often a lot of chatting in the office after the holidays, and this can mean that work isn’t done. To help avoid this, it can be a good idea to start the day with a social activity, and allow regular breaks so that your team can chat with their colleagues and clear their head.


If you take note of the tips above, you are sure to be able to get straight back into the swing of things when you return to the workplace after the holidays, meaning that you can start improving on last year’s output straight away.
